Saturday (12/10/2013) BIRDS EVERYWHERE!!!

Decided to spend the entire day with Drew (Uni friend) starting off in the Yarmouth area we soon moved on to Hemsby and Winterton. A huge fall from the previous day made birding incredibly enjoyable!

Our first stop on tour was to Great Yarmouth on arrival it was clear that plenty of birds had arrived over night and where busily feeding all around us.

Totals from the Cemetery:

500+ Redwing
100 Robin
80 Brambling
40 Siskin
30 Blackbird
10 Goldcrest
4 Ring Ouzel
2 Woodcock
2 Bullfinch (Northern Race Graveyard mega bird)
1 Greater Spotted Woodpecker (Showing brilliantly)
1 Firecrest (heard only)
1 Yellow-Browed Warbler
1 RED-BREASTED FLYCATCHER

After this excellent day we moved on to Hemsby to catch up with a reported Pallas warbler, on arrival we met the finder of the birder and he said it hadn't been seen for about an hour. However the very good ears of Drew picked up on the very soft 'sooweet' call of the Pallas and we all obtained brilliant views of the PALLAS WARBLER being a lifer for me it was even better!

Finally we ended the day getting absolutely soaking wet at Winterton, there was supposedly 2 GGS, Richards Pipit & Pallas Warbler. We saw none of these, just 4 reed bunting, some goldcrest and a couple of little gull.

A brilliant day all round, Drew picked up 3 lifers and reached 200!

1 of many brambling's from the day

Showing very well indeed

and finally... Possibly the worst picture ever taken of a Pallas warbler!
